Scholars for Environmental Research - Eligibility
OVERVIEW
DOCTORAL DISSERTATION SUPPORT
MASTER'S THESIS SUPPORT




In the 2008-2009 academic year, eight $10,000 awards will be awarded for doctoral dissertation support. Eight $5,000 awards will also be awarded for master's thesis or project support. Scholars must use the award to enhance the quality of their dissertation or master's thesis. Awards are for one year, and are nonrenewable.

Scholar candidates must be working full time on their dissertation or master's thesis. Each applicant must complete a budget worksheet, detailing other sources of funds and expected use of Scholar funds. Award funds may not be used to cover tuition or indirect costs.

The Teresa Heinz Scholars for Environmental Research program offers the following support:

Doctoral Dissertation Support

Applicants must be candidates for the doctoral degree who will have fulfilled all pre-dissertation requirements by May 31, 2008, including approval of the dissertation prospectus. They must expect to submit a completed dissertation by May 2010.

Applications will only be accepted from students enrolled in a doctoral degree program at the following institutions:
  • Carnegie Mellon University (Doctoral program only)
  • Cornell University
  • Princeton University
  • Stanford University
  • Yale University
  • Harvard University
  • Penn State University
Master's Thesis Support

Applicants must be candidates for the master's degree who expect to submit a completed thesis by May 2010. Applications will only be accepted from students enrolled in a graduate program of one of the seven universities listed above, as well as Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi.
